Himalayan International  Festival 2013

“Dialogues with Nature and Adventure”, Himalayan International Festival was inaugurated by the minister of Tourism, Bhim Dhungel. The festival was organized by Himalayan Heritage Research and Development of Sikkim (HHRDS) with support of Sikkim University and Ministry of Culture. Tourism Minster Dhungel was present as the chief guest accompanied by the Vice Chancellor of Sikkim University Prof. T.B Subba as a guest of honor. The festival is aimed at promoting harmony and unity through cultural voice in Himalayan region. Addressing the gathering minister Bhim Dhungel said ‘clean environment of Sikkim has contributed extensively to maintain ecosystem in hill region as well as plain’. Although there are many hilly states in India, Sikkim has succeeded in maintain and preserve ecosystem he added. Minister appreciated the initiative taken by the organizers. During the programme, HHRDS felicitated two persons with Himalaya International Sahitya Srijan Samman to the Chief Administrator of State Institute of Capacity Building, Sikkim S.D. Dhakal and Vibhuti Narayan Rai, Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, Wardha. Dhakal was felicitated for his contribution in Nepali Sahitya and Rai for his dedication and contribution on Hindi language in India. Beside, traditional cultural fashion show was organized during the program where Smriti Chettri secured first rank, followed by M.H Subba and Gyalsten Lepcha as second and third respectively. Several local including Sikkim University students and guest artists from Nepal and Tibet also performed colourful cultural programme
